As described in the Allen Family overview, it was through cousin Jeff Knapp that we discovered John and Anne Randall of Durham Maine. John was a third generation American colonist who fought in the Revolutionary War. His daughter Margaret linked the Randall line to the Allens when she married William P Allen of Poland Maine.

We have much to learn about the Randall Family. But several fascinating discoveries keep us digging. For example, we now know that John Randall migrated into Western New York before 1818, earning a place of honor in a plaque found at Hamlin Center, Town of Clarkson, Monroe County. This discovery was amazing, given the fact that John's GGGG Grandson, Arthur Allen Jr, built his own house less then ten miles from where the elder Randall settled!

We have also discovered that the Randall line has been "found" before, then lost to our family. Among the papers we found at the National Archives was a letter of inquiry from my great great uncle,in the 1920's, searching for information on John Randall and his family. Just how and why the Randall line was "lost" to us is still a mystery.

We are currently working to further document John and Anne Randall and their family, as well as researching the colonial experience of the family.

"John was the brother of Stephen Randall, Jr...He was one of the first settlers in Royalsborough (early name for Durham), on lot 126. His house stood near where James Hascall now lives, (1899) and he and his wife were buried on that farm. Here he kept a store. The road from South West Bend came over the hill near his house. Near by was the School House and Church. This was the original "Methodist Corner," which was shifted eastward by a change in the road." [4], [5]
