The Cook family history stretches back to pre-colonial days. Members of the St. Regis Mohawks, many Cooks still reside on the Akwasasne Reservation near the St. Lawrence River on the border of New York State and Canada. Others have spread throughout the United States.
Much of the research below was done by Elaine Cook Roderick. Thanks go to her and other family members who have contributed to preserving our family history.

1. Colonel Louis Atiatonharon'kwen Cook. [1] Born abt 1737 in Saratoga. [2] Louis Atiatonharon'kwen died in 1814; he was 77.
"...St. Regis Chief, and officer of the revolution; b. ar Saratoga, about 1740, settled St Caughnawaga near Montreal, and in 1775 went to Boston to learn facts about the war; he was examined by a committee of the General Court, appointed lieut. col. by Washington, and served with his Indians through the war, mostly on scouting parties; he removed to St. Regis, was a party to several treaties with that tribe, and in the war of 1812, again took up arms for the U.S.; he died on the Niagara frontier during the war." Louis Atiatonharon'kwen married Margaret Tewenniha'tha Tarbell [1]. (LDS site shows a marraige to Mary Charlotte Konwanonsontion, 11 Jul 1763 at Caughnawaga, Laprarie, Quebec.

Born on 19 Sep 1845 in St. Regis Reservation, NY. Margaret Kaniharon'Kwas died in St. Regis Quebec Canada on 16 Jun 1906; she was 60.

On 31 Oct 1953 when Emily Margaret was 38, she second married Edward Hooper [4].
